Dave Jurcenko
Chief Financial Officer

Motto: I never ask anyone to do something I wouldn’t be willing to do myself.”

As the Chief Financial Officer of Sterling, Dave Jurcenko holds the responsibility of safeguarding the organization’s assets and ensuring adherence to all financial policies and procedures. Finance permeates every aspect of Sterling’s operations, requiring his interaction with various departments across the organization. Central to his role is the management of cash flow, necessitating approval for all cash disbursements and expenditures. Dave adopts a prudent approach, scrutinizing each transaction to ensure its alignment with Sterling’s strategic objectives and financial viability. He assesses each expenditure through the lens of personal accountability, asking himself if he would deem it justified if it were his own capital at stake.

Dave obtained his undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and subsequently pursued an MBA with a concentration in Finance from DePaul University. Following his academic endeavors, he embarked on a career in public accounting, specializing in auditing for the initial five years. For the past 27 years, Dave’s professional journey has predominantly revolved around financial leadership roles, where he has served as both Chief Financial Officer and Controller. Notably, he has consistently operated within organizations owned by private equity firms, offering a unique perspective and expertise in navigating the intricacies of this sector—a distinction not commonly found among professionals in similar roles.

Dave’s leadership style includes maintaining an open-door policy to ensure that his team feels empowered to approach him with any inquiries or concerns they may have. Whether they seek guidance, clarification, or simply need someone to lend an ear during challenging moments, he encourages open communication and transparency. He recognizes the value of each team member’s insights and expertise, acknowledging their intelligence and the importance of their perspectives. Therefore, Dave actively solicits their input and feedback, leveraging their knowledge to inform his decision-making process. While the ultimate responsibility for decisions rests with him, he places great emphasis on collaboration and inclusivity, valuing the contributions of every team member.

Dave loves working at Sterling and has a deep appreciation for his colleagues and the cohesive team environment they cultivate. Many individuals within the organization have demonstrated long-standing dedication, including Dave, who has a tenure of seven years. This continuity reflects a positive workplace culture where employees feel valued and supported. Furthermore, the longevity of team members underscores the effectiveness of Sterling’s management approach, which prioritizes employee well-being and fosters a sense of belonging.
